Welcome to Murihiku Dreads
Founded in 2019 in Murihiku / Invercargill, Murihiku Dreads was built on a foundation of passion, creativity, and deep respect for the art of natural dreadlocking. In 2026, the journey entered a new chapter as the salon proudly moved into its own dedicated dreadlock space under the new ownership of Zoes dreadlock sister, Penny.
Penny’s own dreadlock journey began a few years ago, guided by the skilled hands of Zoe Smith, the original founder of Murihiku Dreads. Through mentorship and hands-on training, Zoe has generously passed down her skills, aroha, and passion for natural dreadlocking. Her mahi carries a strong connection to whakapapa, creativity, and authentic self-expression — values that continue to live on within the salon today.
Murihiku Dreads is more than just a salon. It is a space of empowerment, cultural connection, and individuality — where every set of dreads tells a story, and every client is welcomed with warmth, respect, and loving energy.
